Perimenopause

Perimenopause is the transitional phase leading up to menopause, marked by fluctuating estrogen and progesterone levels that can create wide‑ranging changes in mood, metabolism, cognition, and overall wellbeing.

This shift can begin years before periods stop and often brings symptoms such as irregular cycles, sleep disruption, hot flashes, weight changes, anxiety, brain fog, and increased sensitivity to stress.

Because hormone receptors exist throughout the body, perimenopause affects far more than the reproductive system. It influences cardiovascular health, insulin sensitivity, thyroid function, bone density, and the brain’s regulation of temperature and mood. Many women experience symptoms long before they recognize the hormonal cause, leading to underdiagnosis and unnecessary suffering.

This tag brings together guides, expert insights, and evidence‑based explanations to help women understand what’s happening biologically, how symptoms evolve, and which diagnostic and lifestyle strategies can support a smoother transition into menopause.
